Founding story
Eight years on an answer, before anyone asked the question.
In 2017, Anastasiia Karabanova started a PhD at DTU Energy on ammonia sorption materials. She stayed with the subject through a postdoc and six dedicated research projects - long enough to know exactly what these materials could do, and with no particular industry waiting for the result.
The industry arrived in a conversation. A company building decentralised green ammonia plants described where their economics broke: low-pressure synthesis was largely solved, but getting the ammonia back out of the loop was not. Every plant still compressed and chilled the gas - a method from the 1910s that only pays off at enormous scale. In a small plant, that single step can absorb up to a quarter of the capital cost and more than 20% of operating costs.
Anastasiia had spent eight years on the answer to a question the industry had only just started asking.
She began building in 2023, backed by Innovation Fund Denmark, the VILLUM P2X Accelerator, DTU Skylab and DTU Earthbound. In December 2025 the team ran the first integrated extraction in hardware. Ammisorb ApS was incorporated in April 2026 as a DTU Energy spinout, based at DTU SkyFactory.
Amit Khamkar joined as co-founder and Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer in 2026. He spent two decades at Tata Power, Danfoss and Nilfisk translating complex technology platforms - including robotics and digital systems - into products that customers actually buy, most recently leading portfolios above €650M as an SVP at Nilfisk.
His job was not to start the commercial journey. Anastasiia had already built the research base, the early partner relationships and the ecosystem credibility. His job is to turn that into pilots, contracts and a plant-integration story that a system integrator can sign off on.
Research creates the breakthrough. Commercial execution creates adoption. The first field test runs in 2026.
